The Global City party closes off the Ku'damm, the boulevard of western Berlin, for a huge street party.

From Wittenbergplatz to Uhlandstrasse, the Kurfürstendamm accommodates up to three million visitors for the party, which dates back to 1988 and has taken on gigantic proportions. Ten stages present music of every description, while hundreds of stands offer food and other items. One of the neighbouring streets is given over to children's activities and there is also a funfair. Many of the shops on this shopper's mile remain open into the evening and on Sunday.
