The first of the year's wines are brought to table in Avignon for the annual Baptême des Côtes du Rhône. Locals toast their success by cracking open a bottle and Avignon celebrates the newly-pressed wines with free tastings all day.

Côtes du Rhône is France's largest producer of red Appellation Contrôlée wine and the country's second-largest overall producer of Appellation Contrôlée wine (red, rosé and white). Avignon's Baptême des Côtes du Rhône is a chance to sample a few.
