The fair aims to explore new developments and trends in literature, media and science, encourage the exchange of ideas and opinions, set up meetings with writers and, of course, vigorously promote books and multimedia products of every kind.
With a focus on tradition and continuity as well as innovative literature and media products, the fair is a mirror of the whole cultural field of the written word and one of the key international meeting places for those in publishing.
The artistic highpoint of the fair is the award of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. Numerous exhibitions, devoted to topics as diverse as art books, comics and trade-oriented themes, complement the thousands of exhibition stands. Each year the fair honours one "guest of honour", and for 2008, it's the Turkish culture.
Full details of the programme for all groups of attendees are available on the festival website.
