Modelled on Parisian art fairs, Chicago's Around the Coyote Fall Festival showcases the talents of one of the nation's largest concentrations of visual artists, in the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighbourhoods north-west of the city centre.

The festival combines studio visits, gallery exhibitions and performances in a three-day extravaganza of art.

Around the Coyote began in 1990, when Parisian gallery owner Jim Happy-Delpech joined forces with local writers and gallery owners to draw attention to the large and diverse arts community in the Windy City, little known at that time even to locals. Two hundred artists and 20,000 visitors took part in the first Around the Coyote and over the years the event has grown to include 800 artists.

The Fall Festival's success in focusing attention on the artists living and working in these two picturesque neighbourhoods around the "Coyote" (a nickname for the 1930s skyscraper that towers over the area) has led to an additional Winter Festival in February.
