The Bechers' photo documentation concentrates on archetypal monuments of the industrial era and they have managed to establish photography in the context of contemporary art in an almost unrivalled manner. Similar to Arte Povera or minimal or concept art, they create a fusion of reality and poetry, charged with tension, very distinct from the "pure facts".

Presented in various series, the Bechers' industrial structures have been created since the late 1960s. Fifty types of industrial building including winding towers, gas tanks, silos for coal and water towers are among the 650 works on display.
