The 18th festival in 2007 stands by tradition in opening with the six-day Enescu competition (2-7 September, with the finals taking place on the 8 September) concentrating on areas of Enescu's special interests - violin, piano and string quartet in performance and, in composition, works for orchestra or chamber ensemble. Prizes up to €15,000 for performers and €10,000 for composers and distinguished juries characterise the high standard of the competition.

Throughout the whole period there are events in City Square (Piata Revolutiei) including concerts by students from the neighbouring music academies, recitals, movie screenings and an exhibition on George Enescu at the National Museum (5-8 September). The full concert programme includes concerts throughout the festival at both the Sala Mare a Palatului and the Ateneul Român.

After the opening concert, when the "George Enescu" Philharmonic Orchestra plays Enescu's First Symphony, visiting orchestras include the Basel Chamber Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Oslo Philharmonic, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic performing operatic masterpieces such as Verdi's La Traviata and Tosca's Puccini, as well as works by Beethoven and Schubert among many others.
