This three-act play takes love as its protagonist, but in the background looms death, memory and happiness. Three old men fall in love with three young girls and try as much as they can to win them over. The chemist, on being rejected, uses his own drugs to commit suicide; the nobleman dies in a pile of manure and the rich man dies of happiness after having achieved his goal of marrying a young lady. A farce with popular themes and forms, the play premièred in Buenos Aires, where there was a Galician community.

Alfonso Rodríguez Castelao was a child of his time who wanted nothing more than to be an artist, gallego (Galician) and Republican politician. He never gave up on this dream, not even during the bitter days of his long exile in Buenos Aires, where he spent the last 20 years of his life.

Whatever he was working on, narrative, theatre, drawings or caricatures, all seemed to be talking in Galician. His work on the Galician language and tradition didn't just influence his political activity - he was a deputy in the Partido Galeguista, which he himself founded - but everything he produced and did during his life.

His written work is widely read in Galicia but not in the rest of Spain. However, his only dramatic work, Os vellos non deben de namorarse, as it's known in Galician, has been translated into Castilian for this new production.
