Take home that little piece of Provençal sunshine, from pottery to fabrics,
lavender to olive oil, wine to perfume.
Shopping Streets
Begin by browsing through the department stores and upscale boutiques of the main
shopping street, the Rue de la République. Find one-off boutiques
lining the Rue Agricol and Rue Joseph-Vernet. Take a traffic-free
stroll along the pedestrianised Rue des Marchands, Rue du Vieux
Sextier and Rue des Fourbisseurs.
Avignon is a small town but even so, like most of those in Provençal, its
market life is rich and colourful. Drift through the scents of olives, honey,
lavender and goats' cheese as you feast at Les Halles covered market
(Tue to Sun) or the outdoor weekend markets at Rempart Saint Michel. Place
des Carme holds a flower and flea market.
Shops open Monday to Saturday, with smaller boutiques closing for lunch and on Monday mornings.
