Birmingham - Food & Drink

Watch canal boats from a Brindleyplace terrace or sample a Balti feast in a Sparkhill curry house.

Waterfront Brasseries: Brindleyplace and around

From French to fusion, the restaurants around Brindleyplace and Gas Street Basin will tempt even the fussiest taste buds. In summer, dine al fresco on one of the bustling patios.

Local speciality: The Balti Triangle

The Kashmiri communities of Birmingham have made the Balti curry a characteristic Brummie dish. Restaurants everywhere dish up steaming bowls of the spicy stew but the best can be found at inexpensive restaurants in the Balti Triangle. The area lies south of the city centre in Moseley and Sparkhill.

Post-shopping munchies: The Mailbox

A dozen franchises at the swish Mailbox offer a food sanctuary for shopped-out crowds. There’s no room for McDonald’s here, only contemporary Italian, gourmet burgers and champagne bars.

Dining Tips

Special offers at cafés and restaurants are available on signing up for a Brindleyplace Loyalty card or a Mailbox Reward card. See the centres’ websites or contact the tourist office for more details.
