Buy quirky fashion at Palermo's indoor market and boutiques, designer goods
for the home in Recoleta, and classy leather in the centre.
Shopping Streets
In Palermo Hollywood, the Argentine design store Puro Diseño
offers an Aladdin's cave of fine local design. In the centre
you'll find silverware stores and the country's best leather at
Casa López, while the streets of Boca's colourful
Caminito are thronged with stores selling football shirts and
memorabilia.
Buenos Aires' markets come alive on a Sunday. Listen to buskers and buy
artisan goods at Recoleta Market, or shop for antiques to the strains of
tango at San Telmo Market, popular with visitors. Off the tourist track, seek
out ornate gourds for drinking mate, sheepskins, ponchos and other gaucho goods at
the Mataderos Fair on the city outskirts.
Shopping malls such as Patio Bullrich are good places to shop for Argentine designer
clothes in air-conditioned comfort. Standard shopping hours are Monday-Friday
10am-8pm, Saturday 10am-1pm, with shops closed on Sunday except for markets.
