Shopping Streets
State Street, with its large department stores, was once the place for
clothes, shoes and furniture. Now, Michigan Avenue is the venue for baubles,
designer labels and cosmetics. Chi chi boutiques reside in Lincoln Park, and
funky fashions rule in Bucktown and Wicker Park.
Chicago's market scene is thin but during the summer there are several
farmers' markets. Food-lovers go to Green Market in Lincoln Park on
summer Wednesdays and Saturdays. On the last Saturday of each month, Chicago
Antiques Market sets up furniture, jewellery and book stalls (Randolph
Street between Ada and Ogden). The Maxwell Street Sunday flea market reopened
on Roosevelt, but has lost its charm according to many.
Saturday and Sunday are the busiest shopping days. Standard shopping hours are
Mon-Sat 10am-9pm, Sun 11am-6pm.
