Edinburgh - Food & Drink

Tuck into fresh Scottish game and seafood cooked with imaginative twists, or try the much-maligned – but in fact delicious – haggis.

Up and Coming: Leith

Michelin-starred restaurants, cosy gastro pubs and the finest seafood restaurants jostle for position in Edinburgh’s old sea port. Try mussels in a whisky sauce for a new variation on an old favourite.

Splendour: Central

Edinburgh’s West End offers some of the most expensive and exclusive dining options in the city. The large hotels each boast their own restaurant and are in constant competition, keeping each other on their toes and their customers well-fed.

Laid-back: Grassmarket

The Grassmarket features a number of low-key venues serving superb French and Italian food. In the shadow of the castle, it is easy to find somewhere for a romantic meal or grab a quick bite on your way into town.

Dining Tips

Scotland’s chippies (fast food takeaways) are legendary and found all over the city. Broughton Street features two of the best; as happy serving up a ciabatta or pasta as a haddock and chips. In restaurants, a service charge is often included in the bill. Don't be scared to ask before tipping a discretionary 10-15%.
