Browse for one-offs in Bornheim's boutiques, buy Chanel on Goethestrasse, and bag your ration of German fare from the Kleinmarkthalle.
Pick up designer labels on Goethestrasse or browse the shoe shops of Schillerstrasse, near the stock exchange. Small boutiques and second-hand shops await on north-eastern Berger Strasse, and young German fashion labels have made the redeveloped Goethe Square their home. For the bigger department stores and the Zeilgalerie mall, join the crowd on the traffic-free Zeil, Frankfurt's prime shopping thoroughfare.
Gourmets visit the busy indoor Kleinmarkthalle, stretching from Hasengasse to Liebfrauenberg, where small stalls sell alluring foreign spices, fresh local meat and the inescapable apple wine. On Saturday mornings a large flea market springs up on the Main embankment, and Fridays see a farmers' market near the Zeil shopping mile.
If the shopping becomes too much, take a break with a cappuccino on the open terrace of the Zeilgalerie shopping mall. The Commerzbank Tower sells 20 minutes of pure oxygen for those moments when a really deep breath of fresh air is needed. Usual opening hours are from 10am to 8pm Monday to Saturday; most shops in Germany are closed on Sundays.
