Houston - Highlights

It is said that everything is bigger in Texas. Houston exemplifies that spirit, although handily the major attractions are grouped around the city centre.

The Museum District's cultural offerings delight, from the educational Children's Museum, to the extensive collection of the Museum of Fine Arts – Houston and the mod Contemporary Arts Museum. Give the kids a treat with a visit to the Houston Zoo, or a train ride or paddle-boating in Hermann Park.

Explore the passion of art collector Dominique de Menil at The Menil Collection. Become lost in space, the final frontier, at the Space Centre Houston, and include a tour of the manned space programme at the adjacent NASA Johnson Space Centre.

Sightseeing Tips

Some of the more unusual attractions in Houston – expressive art centre The Orange Show and sculptured trash home Beer Can House – are free, as is the Contemporary Arts Museum and performances at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. Most museums and the Houston Zoo offer free admission on a regular basis; the museums are generally open late on Thursday.
