Join the international in-crowd for a cold beer in Bangsar, dance the night away in the trend-setting Golden Triangle district, or find a quieter drinking spot in Chinatown.
Join affluent young locals and expats along Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan P Ramlee in the Golden Triangle for swanky, overpriced bars and sleek clubs playing techno, dance and R&B. Once just a collection of old, abandoned houses, the Asian Heritage Row has been spruced up and turned into a trendy nightlife district crammed with cool restaurants, bars and clubs.
Expats and foreign visitors throng the streets of fashionable Bangsar, south of the centre, which has a concentration of Western-style drinking holes, including Irish, German and Spanish bars, especially along Jalan Telawi Lama. English-language theatre and comedy clubs are also on hand.
For a cultural evening out, head to the Petronas Philharmonic Hall for classical music, or the Actors Studio for dance performances and contemporary drama. You’ll also find British-style pubs and Chinese coffee shops around the city centre.
Most clubs are closed a couple of days each week, and normally stay open till around 3am. Many pubs close in the late evenings during the week, and stay open later on weekends, although traditional Chinese coffee shops (serving beer) normally open for longer. For late-night partying, the Golden Triangle is the place to go.
Enjoy a few drinks in Bangsar to Mimpi by “Malaysian Idol”, Daniel. Take a walk in the Lake Gardens to the jazzy sounds of Sheila Majid. Wind down at the end of an evening clubbing in the Golden Triangle to Ning’s Selagi Ada.
