Take home leather goods from Campo de Ourique, designer clothes from Avenida da Liberdade and rummage for bargains in the Feira da Ladra.
Pick up custom clothing at A Outra Face da Lua in the Baixa area, and gifts, perfume and fashion in the Armazens do Chiado. Indulge yourself in Armani and Burberry designs along Avenida da Liberdade, and leatherwear and jewellery in Campo de Ourique. Spend the afternoon at Colombo, Vasco da Gama and Amoreiras shopping centres for international chains, music and homeware items.
Go to the Alfama early on a Tuesday or Saturday for bargain bric-a-brac at the Thieves Market. See a slice of life at the atmospheric Ribeira Market, which sells fish daily by Cais do Sodré station – there's also a flower market and crafts upstairs.
Shops open Monday to Friday 9am-7pm. Shops tend to close for lunch from 1pm-3pm and on Saturday some shops close at 1pm for the day. Shopping centres stay open all day until 11pm. Markets generally open from 8am-2pm each day and the Thieves Market from 7am-6pm Tuesday and Saturday. Ask at the Lisbon Welcome Centre about the Shopping Card – it gives discounts at certain shops and lasts 24 or 72 hours.
