Within a two-and-half-hour drive of Montreal you can visit the nation's
capital, Ottawa, and escape to the places Montrealers go on weekends.
When Montrealers want to play by a lake or hit the slopes on a snowboard they head to the
Laurentians or the Eastern Townships. To the west, 90 minutes away, is
Ottawa. Be sure to see the National Gallery, the Parliament buildings
and the Canadian Museum of Civilization across the river in Hull. To the north is
Quebec City, the provincial capital. Its walled city, a rarity in North
America, is the oldest in the continent. Dine on crepes and follow the Carnival
Festival in January or February.
