New Orleans - Shop

Pralines come in all flavours at Aunt Sally's Original Creole Pralines. Buy Rodrigue's funky Blue Dog artwork, which haunts the French Quarter, at his studio among the Royal Street antique shops.

Shopping Streets

Antiques shops and art galleries clutter the Warehouse District and the French Quarter, also the place to buy voodoo love spells and charms and Mardi Gras glitz. Find stylish fashions on Magazine Street. If 'Clearance' is your favourite designer, shop for bargains at Tanger Outlets.

Markets

Smells of chocolate pralines and spicy gumbo lure passers-by in to the French Market, which starts at Ursulines Street and runs along the river side of Decatur. Stalls selling chocolates, muffalettas (deli meats on Italian olive bread), beads, masks and feathered boas sit alongside local produce such as okra and onions. This all gives way to a flea market full of bargains.

Shopping Tips

Because the French Quarter is such a tourist mecca, items tend to be more costly. It is still a great place for last-minute buys as opening hours are longer (until 10pm Mon-Sat and until 5pm Sun). General shopping hours are 10am-5pm daily. For international travellers, the state offers tax-free shopping.
