Take off to imperial Karlštejn Castle (less than an hour away), or go
slightly further afield to the museums and churches of medieval Kutná
Hora.
Tourists flock to the Czech Republic’s prettiest castle at
Karlštejn, just a short train ride from Prague. Head north to the
forbidding fortress of Terezín where the Nazis imprisoned Czech Jews
during the Second World War. To the east of the capital, you’ll find the
medieval city of Kutná Hora - once famous for its silver mines; it is
now better known for the Sedlec Ossuary, a creepy chapel decorated with human bones and
skulls. Sample some Bohemian wine and tour the Renaissance palace in
Melník, or sip a pilsner in Plzeň, the home of Czech beer. Na
zdraví (cheers)!
