Savour world-renowned beer, enjoy cool jazz in a smoky cellar, or dance the night away in student clubs or trendy nightspots.
At the centre is Wenceslas Square, with its pavement bars, chic clubs and restaurants, as well as some seedy joints. Nearby are numerous traditional pubs where you can sink a few pilsners while sharing a long table with sociable locals. Prague’s main theatres and opera houses are within easy walking distance, while the city’s laid-back, smoky jazz clubs cluster around Old Town Square.
Edgy Vinohrady – with its moneyed, youthful vibe – is the place for trendy, shiny nightspots, and gay and lesbian hangouts. Further east, grungy Zizkov is home to rough-edged pubs, student bars, drag clubs and off-the-wall weirdness – this is a world away from the tourist trail.
Most central pubs are open beyond midnight, some until 3am or later. Bars on Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square are regularly filled with stag party groups, with prices higher than elsewhere.
Listen to Mozart’s Prague Symphony or Smetana’s Má Vlast while relaxing in the gardens of Prague Castle. Savour the sounds of the Charles Bridge Swing Band while crossing the Vltava, or tune into contemporary Czech rock by Freak Parade over a drink in Vinohrady.
