Rio de Janeiro's unique landscape turns practically every activity into a sightseeing experience.
Take the train up to the Cristo Redentor statue on Corcovado hill, or the cable car up to the Sugar Loaf mountain, to view Rio de Janeiro in its immensity. Marvel at MAC, the Museum of Contemporary Art, designed by world-renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer. Take the tram over the arches of Lapa up to intellectual, artistic Santa Teresa.
Have a day out in the middle of the city in the Parque Nacional da Tijuca. The fearless will be in good hands at the hang-gliding point on top of Pedra Bonita, the less courageous can just visit the Cascatinha waterfall in the Floresta da Tijuca.
Attractions tend to be large distances apart, so plan your days carefully to get the most out of your stay. Cariocas are very welcoming and make visitors feel comfortable instantly. However, you should always be aware of what's going on around you and keep your valuables locked up.
