From the Barrio to the beach, the nightlife known as La Marcha isn't short of bohemian twists and tempting tascas (tavernas).
The heart of the old town is a hub of harmony, where bohemian locals rub shoulders with foreign visitors and city workers on the airy patios, in the ornate tascas and in the bars blaring Hispanic punk and Britpop.
In the summer months, late afternoons merge effortlessly into evenings and late nights around Malvarrosa beach. Paseo Marítimo and Paseo Netuno offer coastal stretches of bars drip-feeding cava to casual crowds. Work your way there later in the evening if you want to visit the nightclubs.
A short walk from Barrio del Carmen, the vibe turns accessibly alternative around the university, along Avenida Blasco Ibáñez. As with the buzzing Plaza Xúquer, you might feel out of place if you're past your late 20s on Juan Llorens – this is where young Valencia comes to strut its stuff.
Linger over four-hour dinners before heading out late: there's no rush as most places stay open well into the early hours, past 3am. In the summer, the focus switches from the town to the open air bars around Malvarrosa Beach.
Wander around the old town serenaded by a guitar concerto by local son Joaquín Rodrigo, or square up to the City of Arts and Sciences with the artistic futurism of local collective Índigo. Crank up some seaside Balearic club classics on the beach.
