Giro d'Italia, Italy's top cycling competition, sees 22 teams of professionals criss-crossing the length and breadth of the peninsula for the "pink shirt". In 2010, the race crosses the borders and starts in Amsterdam, ending 21 days later in Verona.
Since 1909, the centenary Giro d'Italia has grown in popularity and is now very much part of the Italian sporting life, attracting a huge crowd of cheerful supporters. Its success is partly due to the legendary champions, such as Coppi, Girardengo and Gimondi, who helped bring the competition to prominence.
The full programme is published on the Italian sport paper La Gazzetta dello Sport website.
