Sassi, an ancient area of Matera classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, hosts the annual Women's Fiction Festival. It provides a relaxed forum for writers, editors, agents and booksellers to discuss the latest developments in women's fiction.
The programme in 2010 features a good line-up of editors, including Ricciarda Barbieri of Sperling & Kupfer, Claire Baldwin of Headline Publishing and Genevieve Pegg of Orion Books. There's also an interactive writers conference as well as master classes, mini-courses in writing and more.
