W C Handy Music Festival
Having hosted some of the greatest blues talent in the world, Florence's W C Handy Music Festival is a popular summer celebration. The festival encompasses fun-runs, lunches, dinners and fishing competitions as well as live music.
Handy is acknowledged by many as being the "father of the blues" and this annual festival commemorates his musical legacy. Held in various venues across town, past performers at the event have included such musical luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Ramsey Lewis and Jimmy Smith.
