Botany Bay National Park
The Botany Bay National Park encompasses the northern and southern tips of the bay around the towns of La Perouse and Kurnell. The site is rich in history, as it was Captain Cook's first landfall in Australia, back in 1770.
French explorer Jean François de Galaup, Comte de Lapérouse, also made landfall but on the northern spur just six days after the British First Fleet in 1788. His ill-fated landing explains the naming of La Perouse, the park's northern gateway. Explore Bare Island's 1880s fort, used in the film Mission Impossible II, and the Lapérouse Museum.
