Fiestas del Virgen del Carmen

when:Jul 2010 (annual)
where:Nerja

The seaside town of Nerja honours the Virgen del Carmen (patron saint of seafarers) with an impressive coastal procession every year on 16 July.

The festival begins with floral offerings to the Virgin the day before. On the day itself, there is the popular moraga (fish barbecue) with plenty of folkloric activity, drinking and dancing. The evening culminates in a huge firework display, lighting up the sea - for the best views head to Calahonda Beach.
