Honfest

when:Jun 2010 (annual)
where:Hampden

The annual Honfest, which covers four city blocks on 36th Street in Hampden, celebrates the neighbourhood, language and people of Baltimore. The festival is named after the local greeting, "hon", derived from the phrase "honey". Highlights include contests and music.

One of the main highlights of the event, which draws in over 20,000 people annually, is the Bawlmer's Best Hon Contest, where the woman who best epitomises the 1960s hon - with the largest beehive hairdo, bluest eye-shadow and tightest spandex pants - walks away with a US$2000 shopping spree.

Other highlights include the Bud Light Beehive Lounge, where visitors can enjoy live music and dancing, the Glamour Lounge, where ladies can get the full hon treatment, and the Anderson Automotive 500, featuring miniature Hummer races.
