The mushrooming of Jesuit missions in the River Plate basin in the 17th and 18th centuries left behind some precious ruins that have deservedly been declared UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as that of La Santísima Trinidad de Paraná Jesuit Missions.
In the middle of a vast expanse of red earth, a main plaza, large church, school, workshops, cemetery and museum make up the awe-inspiring missions, as well as the housing of the indigenous workers that put their backs into building the religious site.
