Fort William hosts this round of the Mountain Bike UCI World Cup, one of 15 worldwide events from Canada via Europe to Australia. Around 450 competitors and 20,000 spectators head for the country's highest peak, Ben Nevis, for the event.
The event comprises three separate competitions - the Downhill, the 4-Cross (a short head-to-head downhill race for four bikers) and the Cross Country - decided on the slopes of Aonach Mor.
The Nevis Range has been host to World Cup qualifying rounds since 2002. In 2006, the contest won the ruling body's "mountain bike event of the year" award, and in 2007 Fort William hosted its first world championships.
