Grand Canyon Star Party

when:Jun 2010 (annual)
where:Grand Canyon National Park

Eighty miles from the nearest city, the Grand Canyon isn't just a stunning natural landform but also a fantastic place to stargaze, something that hasn't escaped the notice of Tucson's Amateur Astronomy Association which organises the Grand Canyon Star Party.

Each year the Grand Canyon Star Party on the northern and southern rims of the canyon provides everyone with the chance to enjoy the remarkably clear starscape.

With organised trips to Lowell Observatory and the meteor crater near Flagstaff, visits to Native American settlements and volcano cones, there is plenty to do during the day, but the real action comes when the stars come out after dark.

With elevations of between seven and eight thousand feet and light pollution at a minimum, the Grand Canyon offers ideal conditions for stargazing and with enthusiasts on hand to answer any questions you may have, this is a great event for beginners and experts alike.
