Nocturnal Flamenco Bullfighting Festival

A bullfight in the Plaza de Toros Belmonte, Quito. Photo by Julio Argomedo

when:Nov 2010 (annual)
where:Plaza de Toros Belmonte
time:8pm

Truly a ghostly experience, the matador and the bull come face to face by candlelight and accompanied by the singing of Spanish flamenco at the Nocturnal Flamenco Bullfighting Festival. This unique bullfight is held at Quito's Plaza de Toros Belmonte.

Beforehand there is a colourful procession around the plaza paying respect to the Virgin of Triana, with music, lights and comparsas (organised groups of dancers).

If you find the practice of bullfighting distasteful, please avoid this event.
