Parkes Elvis Festival
Each January, the Parkes Elvis Festival celebrates the King of Rock 'n' Roll's birthday with numerous activities and swarms of impersonators. The festival programme is jam-packed with events from tribute concerts to an Elvis Gospel Church Service and film screenings.
Elvis copycats arrive in their thousands, sporting elaborate costumes and quiffs, and in 2007 the event even achieved the world record for the most Elvis impersonators in one place. Lip-curling and hip-swivelling are obligatory and the once-simple phrase "Thank you very much" suddenly becomes a indicator of how well you've perfected the King's trademark accent.
Meal times even take on a rock 'n' roll theme, and if you're really dedicated you can start the day with a "Hunka Hunka Breakfast" and still be rocking right through to the evening. Please visit the festival website for full details of the programme.
