Sturm & Drang
Held within the breathtaking Haydn Hall of Eisenstadt's Esterházy Palace, the Sturm & Drang festival of symphonic music centres on Haydn's role as the pioneer of the symphony. Internationally renowned orchestras perform works including Haydn's revolutionary Sturm und Drang symphonies.
To start the festival, on 18 June La Stagione Frankfurt, led by Michael Schneider, perform symphonies no 38, 48 (Maria Theresia) and 43 (Merkur) as well as the overture Orlando Paladino.
The next day, 19 June, is a matinee performance by the Capella Istro-Politana of symphonies no 58, 35 and 41. In the evening Les Talens Lyriques, under Christopher Rousset, interpret symphonies no 45 (Farewell), 46, 51 and 64 (Tempora mutantur).
On 20 June there is another chance to catch a matinee performance of symphonies no 35, 41, 65, 42 and 47. Later on Harry Bicket's The English Concert perform symphonies no 60 (Il distratto), 57, 68 and the overture L'infideltá delusa. To close the festival on 21 June the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin play symphonies no 67, 53 (L'imperiale), 70 and 73 (La chasse).
