Love and Marriage in Renaissance Florence: The Courtauld Wedding Chests
Beautifully decorated wedding chests from Renaissance Florence stand in all their glory at The Courtauld Gallery this spring. The chests are adorned with precious metals and spectacular paintings that depict stories from ancient Rome, Greece and Palestine.
The chests were part of a suite of luxurious objects commissioned for a marriage between powerful Florentine families. The miraculous survival of the special pair commissioned in 1472 make this a must-see exhibition.
