The 2008/9 Volvo Ocean Race stops off at 11 different ports worldwide, including Ireland's Galway City. The race began in Alicante, and after Galway the yachts just have three more stop-offs before the finish line in St Petersburgh, Russia.

The yacht arrivals are estimated to arrive on 23 May, with an in-port race on 30 May and the start of the next leg towards Marstrand, on the west coast of Sweden, on 6 June. So if you want to be sure to catch the whole programme, you might want to spend a couple of weeks in this vibrant Irish city and the beautiful surrounding area.
