The last Sunday of September is Sainte Thérèse's day, in honour of local saint, Thérèse de l'Enfant Jesus. The anniversary of her death, on 30 September, features a morning mass followed by a thousands-strong procession and a display of her relics.

Sainte Thérèse was the pious daughter of an impoverished Lisieux watchmaker. Admitted at the convent at just 15, she died at 24 and attracted a crowd of devotees soon after that.

Although not as well trodden as the paths to Lourdes, the town's gigantic Basilica remains one of the most important places of pilgrimage in France, especially on that day.
