The Preakness, run at the Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore, is one of the biggest sporting events in the USA. Along with the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes it forms part of racing's illustrious Triple Crown.

First run in 1873, it is also one of America's oldest races, and its prestige ensures that the best horses and jockeys of the day are always in attendance. Around 100,000 spectators attend on race day and they are well catered for, with an excellent grandstand and spacious infield.

The course maintains a fine blend between the dignity that this old and traditional race deserves and the modern facilities and entertainments that large race-day crowds demand.
