The Bol d'Or Race

The Bol d'Or Race, Geneva. Courtesy of Société Nautique de Genève

when:11 - 13 Jun 2010 (annual)
where:Lake Geneva
cost:Free to watch
time:Start 9am

The Bol d'Or Race is a spectacular sight, as over 600 boats and yachts take to the waters of Lake Geneva in a contest for the Golden Cup. On clear days, Mont Blanc looms on the horizon.

Surrounded by mountains, the lake might look picturesque but it often has very choppy water, and with depths of over 1km at the centre there can also be some treacherous currents.
