Festa de Sao Pedro

when:Jun 2010 (annual)
where:Malacca

During the Festa de Sao Pedro, Eurasian descendants of Portuguese settlers reunite in Malacca. The festa celebrates St Peter's feast day, the patron saint of fishermen, and an important figure for this fishing community.

Boats are decorated with icons of San Pedro, the streets fill with dancing and food stalls offer the delicious Portuguese speciality, "curry devil". Songs are sung in the Portuguese-Malay language known as Cristao, which is spoken nowhere else in the world. It's a brilliant spectacle, vibrant and colourful, which adults and children alike will find both fascinating and fun.
