Rome's Festa de' Noantri sees 30 monks parading the statue of the Vergine del Carmine through the streets of Trastevere, where it remains on display for eight days. Markets and street theatre accompany the religious event.

The origins of this event are linked to a band of fishermen on the River Tiber, said to have caught a statue of a beautiful Madonna in their fishing nets. Transfixed by its beauty, they brought the statue to the local church, where it became an object of veneration, and the festival was set up in celebration of this mysterious icon.
