Archibald, Wynne & Sulman Prizes
The Archibald Prize is Australia's longest-running and most important award for portraiture. The best entries are displayed at Sydney's Art Gallery of New South Wales alongside the winners of the Wynne Prize (Australian landscapes/sculpture) and the Sulman Prize (subject painting/mural).
In 2010, the winner of the Archibald Prize (and an appealing A$50,000) was Sam Leach, for his portrait of singer/songwriter/comedian Tim Minchin. Leach also won the Wynee prize. He joins George Lambert, William Dobell and Brett Whiteley on the long list of Archibald prize-winners from the past nine decades.
The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of celebrity talks and the glittering Archibald Luncheon in the ballroom of Sydney's Hotel of the Arts. The prizewinners are announced on 26 March, and the People's Choice for the 2010 Archibald Prize on 20 May.
