Madrid plays host to Spain's biggest Pride celebration. The main event is the carnival-style parade through the city on the second Saturday (4 July in 2009), which ends with a huge party.

The event kicks off with an inaugural fiesta in the Chueca district of the city, followed by a round of discussions, debates and other events in the week which leads up to the parade and party. As per tradition, an awards ceremony bestows Pink Triangles upon those who have assisted in the advancement of gay rights, and Pink Bricks upon those who have hindered it.
