The Taipei Chinese Food Festival at the Taipei World Trade Centre puts the majority of its world counterparts to shame. The themes of its food pavilions have been imaginatively chosen, its cookery competititions adhere to the strictest disciplines of Chinese cooking and its food lectures are well informed. There is even an extensive exhibition on chop sticks.
Apart from the Seafood Banquet, visitors can encounter stalls given over to the use of flowers in Chinese cuisine and favourites like the dishes of worms and insects.
Those wanting a few Chinese cooking tips should sit in for the cookery competition. Chefs have a quota of seasonings and oils available: cooking oil, rice wine, corn starch, soy sauce, salt, oyster sauce, sesame oil, granulated sugar, Szechuan chilli sauce, white vinegar, pepper powder, chicken powder and a list as long as your forearm of instruments and different sized plates.
Don't miss the introduction and speeches concerning Chinese cooking methods and skills. You might learn so much that you will never order a takeaway again.
