Attracting around 2000 participants every year, the Canadian Ski Marathon at Lachute in Quebec is one of the world's largest cross-country ski events.

The race was founded in 1967 by former Canadian national ski team member Don McLeod. It was designated, and remains, the longest "marathon ski tour" in the world. Beginning in Lachute and ending in Buckingham, it is made up of ten different sections spanning 160 kilometres of untouched countryside. All ages are encouraged to participate.

The event organisers provide useful support in the form of snacks, check points, a shuttle bus and ski wax services. Chartered coaches transport skiers from Toronto, Montreal and Gatineau, so it's not even necessary to drive. You can't beat a great cross-country event for testing endurance and skill, or as a personal challenge.
