Over 40 floats take part in the Magic Hat Mardi Gras Parade in Burlington, which is followed by parties and live music. The best float wins a two-day ski trip for ten people at Smuggler's Notch ski resort.
On Friday night a Masquerade Ball takes place at Higher Ground in nearby Winooski. The parade follows on Saturday in downtown Burlington. After the parade, a block party fills the streets of downtown - a street party in the snow intended for the whole family.
Sponsored by local brewery Magic Hat, the festivities raise money for the town's Women's Rape Crisis Center.
