A cross-country skiing event, the Marcialonga is one of the most famous winter races to take place in the Dolomites. It starts in Moena, covering 70 kilometres of fresh snow-covered landscape in the Val di Fiemme.

Thousands of competitors can look forward to bands of cheering locals along the route, improvised refreshment stalls and some really beautiful woods, slopes and meadows, largely untouched and blanketed with snow.

Other competitions taking place on the days preceding the main event (31 Jan 2010) are the Lavazeloppet, a shorter race open to all, the Minimarcialonga for the kids, and Marcialonga Stars, a race for VIPs organised by the association for cancer research.
