Modelled on Parisian art fairs, Chicago's Around the Coyote Fall Festival showcases the talents of one of the nation's largest concentrations of visual artists. It all takes place in the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighbourhoods north-west of the city centre.
Around the Coyote began in 1990, when Parisian gallery owner Jim Happy-Delpech joined forces with local writers and gallery owners to draw attention to the large and diverse arts community in the Windy City, little known at that time even to locals. The Fall Festival's success in focusing attention on the artists living and working in these two picturesque neighbourhoods around the "Coyote" (a nickname for the 1930s skyscraper that towers over the area) has led to an additional Winter Festival in February.
