Songkran is Thailand's New Year festival. In the north-eastern Nong Khai province watch as a beautiful procession heads for Wat Pho Chai, where water is sprinkled on the sacred Luang Pho Phra Sai Buddha image.
The 13 April is known in the north east as Wan Ton and is dedicated to the cleaning and bathing of images of the Buddha. The following day remembers past family members. New Year's Day takes place on the 15 April. Local monks are revered and everyone visits older members of their family. The day is rounded off by a ceremony of wishes and water games.
