Jerez Grape-Harvest Festival
Sip quality fino, manzanilla and other types of sherry in old tavernas and watch elegant equestrian displays and classic flamenco at the annual Jerez Grape-Harvest Festival. The Fiestas de la Vendimia proudly celebrates Jerez's world-famous tipple.
There are exhibitions of equestrian art, horse shows, flamenco music and dance concerts, without forgetting the abundance of street entertainment and a grand procession in honour of the Virgen de la Merced.
Don't miss the Blessing of the Grapes at midday on the first day, in front of the cathedral in Plaza de la Incarnación. A basket of grapes is placed inside a wooden press and, to the sound of choir music, four muscley men in shorts and special boots begin the first pressing of the vintage. White doves are released from the church and the bells ring out gloriously from the tower.
